Bucharest - Cristian Chivu to end his career with the Romanian national team. Inter Milan player said that factor into consideration the age and injury to terminate service to the country.
As reported by the official FIFA website on Saturday (21/05/2011) night local time, Chivu wrote his resignation in a letter addressed to the Romanian soccer federation (FRF).
"My career with Romania has been completed. Age, injury, and also a series of operations in recent years allows me to have difficulty to play at some event," said 30-year player.
"This decision was at once an end to one of the most important stage in my life. When you look back, I feel proud and honored," he continued.
Chivu's national team career started in 1999. Until now he has collected 75 times appearances for his country.
Romanian Football Federation (FRF) saddened by the resignation of Chivu. "This is a great loss for Romania, not only for Euro 2012 qualifiers (June 3) against Bosnia, which is a very important game, but also the future of the national team," said managing director Ionut Lupescu FRF.
